Pain Management For New Nurse

Published

I just had a quick question. I just graduated May 2005 and will begin working as a floor nurse this October. This July I had a lap sugery for diagnosis of severe right lower abdominal pain. They found endometriosis diffuse through out, and were unable to remove all the endo. Now I am still in pain and I am in pain management right now. I am on Elavil and Oxycodone for pain when needed. When I go for my physical as long as I am prescribed these medicatios will there be a problem with me taking these medications? I will be staring Lupron soon so hopefully this will help and these meds will not have to be taken or atleast minimized? Just wondering if any nurses going through pain management theirselves have encountered problems from their employers? I called employee health and asked what I needed to bring and they said the prescriptions and a letter from Dr. stating I am able to return to work with out restrictions which I am doing so. I think I am just paranoi, but just want to make sure. Having this disease has really been a nightmare, I never thought it could casue this much pain, but I just do not want it to interfere with my new job....

Thanks for your help :)

As long as you have a RX there should be no problem, unless you come to work wasted. I am on lortab prn for pain I had a disk fusion c-5 and c-6 my doctor told me as long as he is prescribing that there was nothing they could do. I went off my medication for a week due to UDS for school, so I had to explain to my doc why I was neg . he informed me to take my meds and not to worry unless I was using to get high.
