Ron,

The question is, are you an RN or a tech. The RN has more opportunity to get off thier feet then the tech does as you are not "scrubbed in". You set the room up before the case and hopefully you have all the things there that the doctor is going to need for the case. The RN over sees the room and insures the adherance to sterile tech by all the members of the team, and does the paper work and hands things onto the sterile field. So depending on what role you are going to be playing the the OR, you may or maynot be on your feet the whole time. Of course, any area you go into in nursing is hard on your feet. So be sure to have some good shoes, ones that provide good support and hold you in a good balance with the rest of your body. This saves alot of pain and weariness in your feet and legs.

I am also a Canadian Nurse from Toronto, I worked at Sunnybrook before coming to Minnesota three years ago. As for shoes...what I wear (and swear by) and what a lot of folks in the OR wear are AnyWears. They are the most comfortable shoes, some also wear clogs (or plogs. I don't know what the availability is in Toronto, but they have a website. They come in all sorts of colours and sizes. Anyway hope this helps.
