Otero junior college nightmare for nurse students

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I do not recommend OJC for any student in Colorado. OJC is the type of school that starts with a class of 25 and only 8 can pass. Their instructors are awful and they make their exams extremely difficult to pass. I MEAN TO THE EXTREME. I just heard from former students that they continue to fail students unfairly. OJC lost contract with hospitals in Pueblo so they do not have clinical sites. OJC nursing faculty selects who they want to allow it to pass. If you are Hispanic or black good luck to pass. Do not get too impressed with their faculty's credentials they are selfish. They want the degree for themselves and money on their pockets. I am so glad I found a better school. Otero is a corrupt school do not waist your time with them. Run to the exits. There are better schools out there!!

Dear Dianax,

I am glad you found a better school. I recently learned from some of my employees that they failed at OJC. I was very disappointed. I know what a nurse student goes through and my advice to many students is to do a good search in the school. When the school do not disclose its graduation rate its a red flag PERIOD!! When they lose clinical sites like that... Red flag!! When you study everything your instructor told you, and still can't pass exams.. Red flag!! It is common to see schools taking advantage of electronic exams to select their failure rates. Don't believe me... do a search on school reviews around the internet. I am not too impressed with book smart nurses either I interviewed and hired many of them. Their grades are great but their commitment to their jobs are disappointing. Don't believe me... look at the down turn of RNs in healthcare especially in long term care.... Good luck everyone. Be wise!!

Nursemarkz,

I am so glad to know that you are so supportive of your employees. I am a former student from Otero Junior college, and I regret to say that I fail there few years ago.... The school is horrible I learned nothing there. Students don't have a good relationship with their instructors the opposite I always felt stressed and intimidated. They do not provide an environment that you can comfortably learn. Their instructors feel proud to make things difficult for everyone. It shouldn't be like that but, I hope to warn many students in Colorado to THINK hard like before they consider this school.
