Hi all,
I have a question. I am going to move to Madison, WI with my boyfriend. I have a job lined up for me when I graduate as an R.N. where I work now. It's in a rehab/long term facility and I don't want to stay there forever. It would be 45min away from where I live. I do have an opportunity to work on a medical unit, however. That is where my passion lies for now. That would be about an hr and half drive from where I live. Once I pass my boards I will continue my job search and find places closer to Madison, but in the meantime I would like a graduate nurse position. SO my question is....do I go for opportunity or distance?
Thanks ladies!

That just depends on if you want to drive or not. There are 3 hospitals within a 10 minute drive from my house; however, I am hoping to be hired by the hospital that is about 45 minutes away from me. It is the only with the graduate nurse programs. Also, it has the best reputation. Anytime my kids need to go to the ER in the middle of the night, which is not often, I drive to Scott and White - 45 minutes away. We live on a military installation and the hospital here is horrible. The hospital right outside of post is horrible. They just built a new hospital about 10 minutes away, but they do not hire new grads.
Good luck to you!!

If the job that is an hour and 1/2 away has the (3) 12 hour shifts look at it this way...you work 6-6. You get off at 6, drive 90 minutes home. That leaves appx 6 hours sleep before you have to turn around and do it again. That pace will catch up to you.
