hey all,
i am a second semester rpn student at george brown college. i am trying to plan for the future, and thus thinking about getting my bscn when i am done here.
i have heard from one of the rpns at my clinical placement who is upgrading that some universities around the country offer a two year distance ed. program, where the one year bridge is not required. he was taking the upgrader though a university in alberta i believe, and still practicing in ontario. unfortunately he was only on our unit for the day, and i was unable to find the time to discuss this further.
i would like to choose distance education as i need to be working part time at least, and would prefer doing to work out of home. i understand that there is an hourly experience requirement, and don't mind working fulltime first. i also understand that taking the exam for the specific province of the school is required and dont mind that either.
if anyone has any information on which schools offer such a program, how the process works, how clinical placement works, ect. could you please share? thank you very much.

Are you speaking of Athabasca? If so, I was actually checking this program out a few minutes ago, and it appears that the clinicals need to be done in Alberta. The exams can be done anywhere basically, there is a list as long as you are within 100km of the school (from an approved list) otherwise arrangements can be made to suit you better.
The clinicals cause hardship for me, as I will have to be working and here for my 5 year old child. I live in a very small town in Ontario, there is no BScN program within a 4 hour distance. This is the only program I know of, if there are others I would like to hear about them as well.
