I am considering taking some of my prerequisite courses online through CCConline or Rio...
Trouble though: I live in California and I am currently enrolled in school here.
What do you think the nursing programs I apply to will think of this? Or rather, how can I explain this? I am going to apply to direct-entry MSN programs.
Thanks! ginillel

If they accept online courses, I can't imagine it would make any difference. I live and go to school in Quebec, took an online course through University of Rochester, and applied for direct entry programs - thus far I have not heard any complaints from the schools about it. If you're really concerned, call up and ask if they accept online courses. The only disadvantage to out of state is it makes it a bit more obvious it's online but honestly, I can't imagine they scrutinize that closely and I don't think most care where you take it.
What will they think of it? Probably that you're pro-active and found a school to take the required course at since yours doesn't offer it. I wouldn't stress about it.

I'm taking one of my prereqs at a private school in another state. It's expensive - I'll pay more for one private course than I'd pay for three courses at community college - but I've searched all the community colleges in my state and can't find one that offers a section class that is compatible with the rest of my class and work schedule for the spring. I did check with the admissions office of the nursing school I'll be applying to before I signed up for the course.
I don't think there are many nursing schools that care whether your class is online or offline. What they care about is whether the school is accredited and also they look at the course description/subject matter to see if it meets their guidelines. But your best bet before you pay for or take a course is to run it by them first.
