6 years after I have finally decided to start school! hah.
My goal is to make it into nursing school in 09 or 10 (probably end up being 10). I will be starting my pre reqs at Ivy Tech in Indy this fall and so far I will be taking ENG 111 online and MATH 050 at the campus (yeah...its been forever!).
My question is this: I am a single mom, and I have seen others on this board by lurking, are there any suggestions on classes I could take online and which ones I REALLY need to take on campus? I am so lost by all of this right now...

I took all of my classes on line except for Math 050 ( algebra).
Online classes are great if you can dedicate the right amount of time to them and not wait till the very last day to do your quizzes/projects/labs.
I did all my pre and co-req's in 18 months on line and absoluty loved it.
I personally highly recommend them esp the ANP classes. Some online classes are easier than in person classes as well.
Good luck

For me I think it might tend to be more convenient since the flexibility is what I am looking for. However, I am frightened of how nursing school will turn out since I know that the hours are not flexible at all. I am seriously considering taking PSY online in the fall and moving my classes I already registered for to the Summer session to start getting them out of the way faster. Thanks!

I'm currently taking 3 classes online and 1 face to face @ Ivy Tech.
It was an adjustment at first , and I had issues keeping each class straight. I printed out the class info and syllabus and put them in a binder and it made things much easier.
I'm taking Soc 111, Com 102, and Eng 112. I'm finding it really convenient with a house full of kids, a husband, and working full time too.
I'm not sure I would do a science or math class, but all other gen ed I would definately recommend.
How do you like 112? I was reviewing the list of req classes and I saw that along with 211 and wasn't sure what I would like better when the time comes to do them.
I like it. I am thinking at some point after finishing ASN I will go on for BSN. I wouldn't hesitate to take online courses for that either.
There are only two major papers due. One is in APA format that I just finished. The other is in MLA format. The first 8 weeks were spent reading chapters out of the book and completing assignments from it. There was also a couple of summary papers thtat were just a page or so. One was over Fredrick Douglass' speech and some other readings from the book. There was also an analyzation on how appeals are used in MLK "I have a dream" sppech. I know the final little assignment, after the MLA, is sort of the same thing but over FDR's speech. It really has been fairly easy. The hardest part is finding the time to write. I am the type that is easily distracted when writing. So, I try and lock myself in my bedroom , but my 2 yr old finds a way to get in there everytime LOL!
If you have any more questions just let me know.
Good luck!
Well that's good to hear!
Those 3 classes are some of the ones I am planning on doing online. I think I will do ANP I and II, BIO, CHM, and maybe a math class in the classroom. I am loving how the life skills elective is online too, that really helps out.
I think I have mapped out all my classes for the next year...and if it works out the way I want it to, I can get all my pre reqs and co reqs done by the end of Summer 2009.
Did I hear wrong or do they not accept any pre reqs done the semester immediately before you apply for nursing school? I read it somewhere on IvyTechs website...but I don't remember where.
You heard or read right, as far as I know. However, at least in Logan and I have heard a couple of others say it on here. That applying for Fall, because of the summer session in between, They are accepting applications for Fall if the pre-req ( in my case ANP 102) is in progress. The deadline was April 1, The letters go out end of May, the classes will be done by then (first part of May) and my school said they will go back to reflect our grades on those classes. I am not sure if this is college wide or at the discretion of each campus.

Probably because our campus is so small Logan/kokomo/wabash combined, we are limited on what online classes are available.
I have a question about going outside the region in online classes.
For example, IVY 104 is not offered online in my region, does anyone know if I could sign up for Indy's or another campus' IVY 104?
I have been meaning to ask my advisor this but, haven't had time to.
Does anyone know?
I am not sure, but I would love to know the answer for this as well, because the Indianapolis campus is limited as well (may not as much, but still limited) and other regions offer some classes I was thinking of taking online.
So therefore my pre reqs need to be done by the end of the winter semester to be on the safe side?
I have to go back in Saturday to get my admitted term switched to Summer instead of fall, since I didn't realize my FAFSA from 2007-2008 was still active.
I am starting Bloomington next month and took 99% of my classes from Terra Haute, South Bend and one or two from Bloomington.
Yes, you can take online classes from outside your region. JUst be prepared though as ANP has a 1 day lab that you must attend.
Other than that, just make sure you have chosen a proctor for your tests and you can take them there.
