Online CNA/CENA Courses

Hello everyone!

Just curious, has anyone completed an online CNA course and subsequently received state certification?

I just obtained my Michigan CENA certification yesterday. Yeah! I pursued it because some of the RN programs here require CENA certification as part of the entry requirements. I also want to get some direct-care patient experience before I go to nursing school. I went through a traditional, classroom-based program at HFCC.

Nevertheless, despite the lack of hands-on clinicals, it would have been very convenient to have taken the course online. (The hands-on portion could have been practiced at home.)

Anyway, I found this website (http://www.michigancnaonline.com) and thought that it might be useful to those interested in CENA certification, if these programs are acceptable by the state, which I have not researched. Anyone know or have any insight?

Sincerely,

Wendy

I found the answer to my own question.

According to the Michigan Department of Community Health Nurse Aide info, online programs are not recognized as stated:

I would like to become a registered nurse aide. What do I need to do?

You will need to complete a minimum 75-hour state approved nurse aide training program. There are over two hundred programs located throughout the state. Nurse Aide training programs are offered in high schools, adult education, nursing homes, community colleges, some American Red Cross agencies, and a few other agencies. A good source for existing programs is a local newspaper advertisement or employment advertisements. The State of Michigan does not recognize online programs.

The document containing this info can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdch_na_faqs_133919_7.pdf.

So, to anyone considering such programs, don't waste your time!
