ive just started being an oncology nurse.can i ask what are your usual duties and responsibilities as the nurse in the chemo unit..just wouldnt want to miss things.

thankyou!

silver888stein,

Not sure if you are asking about chemo unit in the doctors office/vs hospital outpatient/vs. chemo unit inpatient. Do you also have surgical oncology, medical oncology and end of life oncology? Clarify and be happy to give you a brief overview - but warning, not two days are the same.

As a former Rad Onc nurse, I had 25-35 pt's ALONE!!! NO, CNA or any clerical support. One pay period I work 117 hours, and ended up in the hospital. I went to adminstration about patient safety and it fell on deaf ears. I just left 5 months ago and now work in the insurance industry and LOVE it. Our outpatient chemo had 3-6 nurses for chemopatients.
