Oh the things I am learning

My first seven months as a school nurse have been quite an adventure. The first three months, I spent significant time wondering if I had made a huge mistake. At this point, I am feeling slightly better on that front.

Today I learned that forevermore I must refer to what I always called "peanut allergies" the more broad "nut allergy." Thank you to irate parent number 2.

Anyone else have any tips to avoid another angry phone call?

Well, that depends if they have a peanut allergy or a tree nut allergy or both

Also depends if the parent is nuts (bah dump DUM).

It's two different things, angry parent. Peanut is a legume if we're getting technical. Smile and wave, Gemini! OldDude used to tell us to let it roll off your back like water off a duck's.

Meh, I have pissed off plenty over the years!

As they say in Frozen... ??Let it go!!??

Yes, I agree with Nutmegge... I've had many irate parents over the years - mostly those who think i'm their child's personal concierge.

Realizing how dreadfully needy the parents have become and how Mama bear culture has taken over, I find myself making more CYA calls than ever.

And as far as nut allergy vs. peanut - many people don't actually have both. Mama (bear) has to realize her's isn't the only child with "medical needs". Have a happy Thursday ?

The worse I've had is a parent who demands her child sit at the "nut free table" due to his peanut allergy, but also demands that her child be allowed to eat other nut products at this table because he "relies" on them as a source of protein. ? Luckily there are no other students in his lunch cohort with nut restrictions, but good Lord.....

Oh, and I STILL don't have med orders for his epi-pen..................................

Yesterday I learned that "jiggly pants that aren't too up or too down and aren't too much flat" means that she hates leggings and wanted a pair of joggers?

As for not making parents angry...it's impossible.

Adding "small child language interpreter" to your resume...priceless

I had a kid earlier this week who had a toileting accident and then didn't like the fact that I don't run a satellite Gap Kids and didn't have the exact pants she wanted. She chose to stay in urine soaked pants until dad came to pick her up.
