A lesson that I learned (though not in the healthcare profession): if you want to increase your odds of being hired, be willing to be flexible about WHEN you can work. Most people don't want to work weekends, nights or swing shifts...but if you are willing and able to work odd hours, you're got a leg up on other applicants. Then after you're in the job for a while, you can shift towards a schedule that you like better.
