Maternal Risks of Skin to Skin?

Hello all :)

I am a bit stumped on the potential risks for the mother regarding skin to skin care. The only one I can think of is overheating & I can't find much in the literature indicating other risks.

Any info would be much appreciated!

You are right, SUPC should not be categorized as a maternal risk.

Babies being prone is the risk, and where I work, fresh babies aren't prone unless they're skin to skin.

The only risk I can think of is in high risk OB, where the mom's have become focused on their baby and are a bit more difficult to assess. I've had a few cases where mothers presented with very rapidly progressing labor to our ED, and deliver before we have done anything more than put them in a bed and take their pants off (sometimes the pants aren't even off). I don't want to say that we 'delay' skin to skin because that is not our goal, but we will get the mom stabilized first.
