NYC NYP Application Process

Published

Hi everyone! I'm a new grad RN who graduated from a very competitive nursing program in NYC. I've been applying for jobs since the end of April, and unfortunately haven't had any luck on being successful. I am really looking into Pediatric or ED jobs (I know it's possible to start off in both as a new grad bc students in cohorts before me have done so.) However, I've been denied over 15 times for multiple hospitals across NYC, whether it be Mount Sinai/NYP's.

I have a couple of applications still submitted before I decide to "settle" with a MedSurg job (which I really don't want to do). Some of my applications on the NYP website have been submitted for over a month. Now, instead of going to "inactive,” the job name is in grey with "application submitted" underneath it. I'm assuming this means they're considering me, but given that no one has reached out to me for over a month, I'm starting to doubt this. Please let me know what this means/if you have any advice.

My NYU-Langone applications have also been submitted for over a month, and it still says "application/resume submitted" as well, with no update.

I've also reached out to over 30 recruiters by email, none have replied to me. I've contacted my former clinical professors as well. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to speed up this process, or is this process usually this long? I've even considered going to the hospital myself and seeing if I can speak to anyone there, but given it's NYC, I feel like that'd be a waste of time... IDK what to do. Thank you in advance.

Hi! I'm in a similar boat, have you had any luck since? I don't want to settle for a medsurg job just yet but im starting to think that these hospitals are hiring people with more experience and I only just graduated.

Hey, congrats on graduating! Unfortunately I haven't had any luck since. I emailed a manager I met during my clinicals and got an interview that way for a dream position I've been wanting. The interview went so well and I thought I finally was hired. However, someone internally applied and they were priority over me since they already work at the hospital so I unfortunately did not get the position.

I graduated in January, it's been half a year and I have yet to find a job that I actually want. I've applied 32 times to diff hospitals, only to get one interview that I basically emailed someone for. ALL rejections without even an interview...I'm like literally losing hope

My friends who graduated recently are also having issues getting hired as RNs. I'm so upset, I really don't want to settle with a MedSurg job but IDK what to do at this point.

Hi, I recently graduated (in august) and I have been having trouble as well. Did you end up finding a job?
