Hello to all,

I am a L&D Rn looking to transition into NICU nursing. I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years and now the time is right--kids in school yada yada--you know the story. I only want a NYSNA hospital . I need info on NY Presby, Montefiore(einstein) and Westchester Medical Center. Could you please let me know if they're currently hiring(Days or nights), Will they hire without NICU experience? orientation time frame? Do they orientate only on days? current salary scale, tuition reimbursement, parking fees? Job satisfaction--Low Rn Turnover or not? Sorry so many ?'s

Any info would be greatly appreciated

thank you!

I can tell you about NY Pres....

Could you please let me know if they're currently hiring(Days or nights) Yes. Nights only, unless you come with NYSNA seniority. Otherwise you wait your turn behind everyone else... I waited 15 months.

Will they hire without NICU experience? Yes, but it depends on your background. L&D should be good.

orientation time frame? 18-28 weeks, depending on your progress, encompassing step-down, the main NICU and the transitional nursery (attached to L&D where all in-house admissions pass thru)

Do they orientate only on days? No, you can orient on nights, usually by preference, but most orient on days.

current salary scale: Depends on too many factors. Base is around $72k, then add in experience diff, night diff, education diff, certification diff, etc....You can easily take $90k working nights with a few years exp.

tuition reimbursement: 12k a year.

parking fees? $55 q 2 weeks, pretax.

Job satisfaction--Low Rn Turnover or not? Here at NYP, in the NICU, RNs usually leave for school, or because they are moving. Our manager is hiring like crazy to increase staffing. We typically have 30-32 RNs a shift. I would say that job satisfaction is about on par with any other 58 bed unit that has seen 80 patients at a time....haha

Steve,

thanks for the info--you're a gem
