I want to do the traditional nursing track at nvcc. begin working and then think about getting my bsn. i just looked up the prereqs for mason and they tack on so many more classes? anyone find this frustrating? and how much more time does that add for me before i can even apply from rn to bsn.

Coincidence that I read your post as soon as I left GMU's website. I think the only class you'll really need is ethics as long as you complete the NVCC associates program and get your RN license. Mason has a RN-BSN program so they waive nutrition requirement and even A&P (nas 161 or 162 are acceptable as long as you have the RN license). You may need other classes like Micro and psych too. I'm not sure if NVCC requires micro/psych but I have those courses from my previous degree.
I find DC area nursing schools in general to be frustrating b/c they all want diff prereqs so its not like you can just apply to a handful of schools...sucks
forgot to mention that Mason has this bold print stating that just because you have Associates doesnt mean you automatically meet all gen ed requirements. Click on the RN-BSN track and be sure to thoroughly review their PDF presentation. good luck! :)

The NVCC program is an AAS (Associates of Applied Science) and doesn't meet the gen ed requirements for Mason. You have to also get your AS which requires a few extra classes that the Nursing department at NVCC doesn't require (a computer class, PE and something else I can't remember off hand). The primary issue I've run into with this is Mason will not accept you as a transfer under the matriculation agreement with the Nursing department unless all classes that make up your AAS/AS were taken at NVCC. If you have any other course work that you transfer in from another school to get your AAS/AS Mason sees you as a transfer student and you have additional courses to take before you can be accepted (Western Civ is one of them).
