Nursing Theorists-Help please!

I have a question for any nurse that can help me out. I am supposed to ask nurses this question. "What nursing theorist guides your practice?" If you could also identify your credentials such as ADN, MSN, BSN..., area of practice, education level, and any formal courses post graduation I would greatly appreciate it.

None....lol. I have never really found a nursing theorist that I agreed with. There is usually always something that you can identify with in your practice i.e. keeping a patient clean/dressing changes (Nightingale) but an overall theorist guiding my practice or any other nurse out of the academic relm I have never really heard of. I am fan of evidenced based practice, if a study conclusively proves something lets try and implement it.

My areas of practice: ICU/ER/LTC/Clinic/Prison nursing (mostly ICU and I am active duty AirForce nurse...don't know if that really matters for this topic)

Highest Level of Education BSN w/ 24 semester hrs towards a MSN which included graduate nursing theory and graduate nursing research.

Certifications: CCRN, ACLS/BLS instructor, & TNCC

as a nurse educator, my favorite nursing theorists are jean watson (caring theory) and patricia benner (novice to expert theory). the goal of the caring curriculum is to create an educational experience in nursing that emphasizes analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in a milieu of honesty, openness, and support. i believe students are much more receptive to learning when there is a supportive environment.

according to benner, new graduates should be at the advanced beginner stage of nursing clinical expertise. we strive to equip our students with the critical thinking skills and theoretical background necessary to become safe, effective, professional nurses as they enter the healthcare arena.
