nursing school is hard, but very rewarding :)

ok lets be real here for a minute.

whether u are a current or former student, we all know that nursing school requires time patience and effort.

between clinicals, care plans, studying for tests, competencies, reports, projects etc we tend to lead one busy lifee.

never mind with balancing school comes work, maintaining a house, exercising and yet having time to eat.

none the less when you do have free time if ever u want to spend it with yourself or your family for the most part - end of story.

needless to say i cannot stand it when i tell my friends i dont have any free time due to school and they dont believe me or the classic line you can fit me in somewhere. really buddy bc right now i cant even see my family. nursing school is definitely not like another college degree its by far the hardest thing ive done yet to date .. so either your gonna support me and my decisions or i dont need you in my life! im so sick of explaining myself to people .. and them saying "it cant be that bad" sorry just had to vent ... anyone else feel the same way??

I feel the same way. I lost a lot of friends in my journey. I was a psychology major in college and I had the best time in my life. I had time for friends, time for networking, parties, while maintaining a high gpa. Now I am going for nursing as a second career and I have lost all my friends. I just couldn't have a social life while taking my pre-reqs. It was very hard to keep that same lifestyle and they used to joke and call me "grandma." But this major is definitely different than the others. Nursing students definitely have to study more and not have much of a social life to pass. When my doctor found out that I was pursuing nursing he had told me to say goodbye to my social life. And he was right. But I am now more focused and I just have to put my social life on hold until I become a nurse.

hello, I was also a psychology major in college and want to become a nurse. I am currently looking for the best place to pursue this career in the south. I am from Boston and was torn between NC and GA, which is the best place to become a nurse?

hello I got into UMDNJ Accelerated BSN program here in New Jersey...I don't know about other states' nursing program. But I got my BA in psychology first at FDU and went the accelerated program route. Good luck!

OMG! I just posted a similar thread a few days ago venting about my brother-in-law saying "it's not that hard is it?" When I told him people were failing out. To be honest, you just have to ignore the negative comments and as cheesy as it sounds, your true friends will stick by you. Sometimes misery loves company. When others see you doing well, it forces them to look at their own lives. Just something to keep in mind. Nursing school can be incredibly difficult and it takes a huge toll physically and emotionally. Unfortunately unless someone has been through it, they'll never truly understand. You shouldn't feel bad about going for what you want in life.
