Nursing School and Chain Smoking ;-/

Published

I need to feel like maybe I am not the only one out there!!! I am not a heavy smoker. I smoke a ciggy or two a day. I am NOT lying. Somedays, I don't smoke at all. Sometimes, I won't smoke for a week. And, I am a closet case smoker. I would never let my classmates know I smoke, lol. My problem is when I am class starts I instantly chain smoke. It is horrible. My husband, who does not smoke, picked up on it, Ha! I know once school ends I will let up, but I feel so guilty being a chain smokin' nursing student. Anyone else out there w/ a secret?:nono:

Wish I could help, I'm struggling with it as well. I quit for 5 days and then fell like a boulder !! 2 days later I tried again and lasted 2 days...but it seemed to consume All OF MY THOUGHTS ! I had a thread here where I was logging how I was feeling and I went back and read it, along with all the advise from people and that seemed to help.

Im back on the wagon but its tough !!!

Good Luck

I hate to admit that stress makes me smoke more. At one time I too only smiked here & there. I told myself, I could quit whenever I wanted. Guess what? It's 18 years later & I still smoke. I've tried cold turkey, patches, gum, homeopathic remedies, Wellabutrin, & auricular therapy. As it turns out, I'm allergic to all the pills & the patch. I have an overwhelming desire to quit & I just have not succeeded. That doesn't mean I'll give up trying, it's just very hard. So, if you can at all-QUIT NOW! Or you may end like me. Cigs are very powerful & at first you think you can drop it at anytime. Over time nicotine just takes over & you need it all the time & more of it.:smiley_abDon't let nicotine become another battle in your life. I sure wish I never. Good Luck!

I reccomend that you continue to smoke, and that is hard for a new RN like me to say to a person. I was a smoker for years!!! I went to school and tried to quit between quarters but it never held. I neglected my health while in school and as soon as I graduated I had a tooth absess that became a life threatening illness when it started to grow in my throat and cut off my airway. I spent four days in the hospital and that cured me of smoking but I only thought about quiting when I got home. Now I have been smoke free for three months. All I think about is smoking so my thoughts were elsewhere during the nclex studying. Take cigs as the one treat for yourself during school.
