I work in mental health in Tasmania, each state in australia has different rates so it might pay to search those rates out, we have a base pay depending on how many years post grad u are. first year out here is about 38,000 per year then you need to build in your penaly rates etc,.
Hi Roxie thanks for your reply ...I'm not quite sure what you mean by penalty rates though...
Is it the same as what we over here class as a forensic lead?
Penalty rates is the same as shift allowances, flat rate is about $27 per hour. Late shift is paid a further 12.5% night shift is 50% weekend work is time and a half on Saturdays and time and three quarters on sundays, then if you have another certificate ie psych then it is an extra $70 dollars a fortnight, if you are in charge of a shift it is an extra $8 per shift etc. However it is true to say that tasmanian nurses are the lowest paid in Australia as far as these rates are concerned. Again if you work for an agency on the main land then it is much higher paid hope this helps

Hi slipned. at the moment 42,200 australian dollars is £17,359 in squids with unsocial hrs to add on. I'm planning at the end of my mental health nursing diploma to move with my family to either US, Aus or New Zealand.

Can anyone tell me the average salary for a psychiatric nurse with say 2yrs experience in the US, (if state specific, then Florida).
Kind regards in advance

I'm a pediatric ICU RN considering a move to Australia. How many shifts per week do most full time nurses work and how many patients are assigned at any one time? Just a general day in the life of an Australian nurse is what I'm interested in.
