Hi all,
I am a current nursing student and I will be graduating this May from an ABSN program. My current program is in Upstate NY where everyone always talking about how difficult it is to get into a residency program (or get any jobs) as a new grad in big cities/states like NYC, Cali and Boston. Almost every professor in my program wants us to stay in their city because the local hospitals will hire us as they are affiliated with our school. As much as the prospect of the job as a new grad sounds great, the pay is really low (way below the national average) and I have to pay off student loans. I am initially from NYC and would love nothing more than to go back and I am asking about Cali for some of my friends who are from that state. I have worked prior at a private NYC hospital and hoping it gives me a slight edge.
If you would please share any successes you have had getting a job or residency program acceptance as a new grad in a big city, please share!
