Nursing in foreign land

Published

I recently took a job in the Middle East as a staff nurse now training to be a charge nurse. I am constantly questioning policies and procedures and the response I get is that is the way it has been done. No reason or rationale. I look at this way "no method for the madness." There are presentations and other nurses who promote evidence based practice but it doesn't go very far with the implementation process. I am hoping to find other nurses who will offer me information and encouragement. Reviewing charts, I find several things inadequate for example assessment charting, VS records, and there is such a redundancy- (a paperless system is expected). I am in the process of finding assessment flowsheets, I&O sheets, VS templates and other pertinent paperwork for a medical/surgical floor. Would welcome any comments, feedback, and/or information.

Is there any regulatory body? Who defines scope of practice there? Surely someone is responsible for saying what must be done and how. I do not know of a website that has sample templates for what you require. Sounds like a big task! Good luck.

They are suppose to but no one follows up on it. Management says they have people involved but I wonder who they get accreditation or certification as they state. In a country where you are unfamiliar with planning, I can only imagine. Don't get me wrong, I do want to help.
