Nursing Education Info Desperately Needed

I am contemplating a career change and have been doing research on various methods of entering the nursing field for the past four months. I currently hold a BS and an MBA in non-health related fields. I am an alumni of the University of Michigan and was initially going to return to the state to participate in its 20-month accelerated BSN program for BS degree holders. However, I am very hesitant to relocate back to MI. Therefore, I decided to explore schools here in Houston, TX, only to find out that there are absolutely NO accelerated programs available similar to the one at U of M. I've spoken with several nurses who have attempted to direct me as to the best way to approach entering the field. However, I'm stumped. I want to begin taking some basic classes (i.e., Nutrition, Biology, Physiology & Anatomy, etc.) in Spring 2003, but I don't know where to begin. Most of the programs here are full-time programs. I currently hold a full-time position at a major computer company. Although I'm not fully satisfied with my salary, I can't afford to quit and become a full-time student. I've also been attempting to obtain a position in the IT dept. of a health-related company to get a headstart but have had no success. Please advise or direct me to a counselor or someone knowledgable enough to help me through this.

Have you seen an advisor at the university near you? That might be the best place to start.

Local community colleges offer the types of classes you mentioned, and most offer night classes. Did a quick search for your area and came up with Houston Community College.

They offer an ADN and I'm sure you could take prereqs there to transfer to a BSN program.
