Nursing Classes Online

My school of choice has an online option for classes (clinicals and tests are taken onsite, however) and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with a program like this. It would work well for me as I do need to work part time during the program and the school site is 50 miles from home. In an ideal world, I would like to be in class with an instructor but to me, online is the best thing considering my other responsibilities. I've taken online classes in the past and have done well so I don't *think* I'm necessarily afraid of them--but I guess I wouldn't be asking for advice if I was 100% sure!

Anyone take nursing classes online? Tips, hints, pros and cons most welcome!

My lpn to rn program is online, with clinicals at the end of the semester, 30 hours a week for 5 weeks.

It's really hard; we've lost over 1/3 of our class, and the first (of two) semesters isn't quite over yet. The class before us lost 3/4 of their class by the end of the year (it's a one year program). Of the people who took the NCLEX, they had a 100% pass rate, though...

I think people drop because they aren't able to learn well without a lot of explanation or help from an instructor, or they don't work well individually, or they don't allot enough time for studying. I personally am doing great, but I do well at independent learning, I have worked in an acute care setting (medical floor of a hospital) for many years, and I am IV certified.

I love the on-line learning; but it isn't for everyone. If you think it might work for you, try it. The worst you can find out is that you need to drop and take the classroom options.

I just got accepted into my schools web program. I will take my lecture portion online and go to school for labs and tests. I have taken most of my college courses online and I think I should be okay, but I guess I won't know for sure until I actually get started with nursing classes. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My school recently started a web program, our classes are 1/2 online and 1/2 in class. We listen to lectures online and submit assignments on line and then we do case studies in class and take our exams in class. I've done well so far but I have to admit that it took me some time to get used to it. I like the classroom environment I learn better with the teacher in front of us teaching the material and sometimes I may not have questions of my own but another student may ask a really good question that I can learn from... I'm doing well but I rather have the old fashion class room learning!
