Nursing Assistant Interview-Michigan

Published

Hello Everyone!

I am a pre-nursing student at a Michigan community college. I have experience caring for my mother, I've been volunteering at a hospital for nearly one year, I recently obtained a BLS Provider certification, and I have lots of experience from caring for my mother. Yesterday I was contacted for an interview at RO Beaumont regarding a nursing assistant position and I would be extremely grateful to get this job.

I plan on applying to the nursing program at my community college in January as well as U-M nursing school. I currently hold a 3.915 cumulative gpa and a 4.0 prerequisite gpa so far (I just have to ace Micro, intro to the fundamentals of nursing, and nutrition--I'm also taking a developmental psych course for U-M). My classes are held two days/week and my availability is open the other 5 days. To be honest, I wouldn't even mind working night shifts.

What can I do in order to increase my chances of getting the job, aside from dressing professionally and bringing in copies of my resume/references/BLS Provider card? I have never had any formal nursing assistant training, but I have done similar tasks for my mother as CNA's do for their patients, which include...

  • changing her ileostomy bags
  • emptying her ileostomy bags
  • checking her blood glucose levels
  • assisting her with ambulation
  • emptying her bedside commode
  • Assisting her with bathing

Other things I've done for her include

  • wound dressing changes
  • PICC dressing changes, flushes, administration of IV antibiotics (Invanz, Rocephin, Zosyn)

Sorry about the long post, but I am very passionate about helping others and I would love to have this job.
