SoldierNurse22, BSN, RN 13 Articles; 2,058 Posts Dec 15, 2013 Med-surg encompasses such a broad range of diseases (see: just about anything!) that it'd be difficult to have a nurse who only does patient education (civilian RNs, please chime in if I'm wrong here!).That's why nurses in general are supposed to be knowledgeable enough to teach their patients themselves... y'know, good old-fashioned care plan tailored to the patient and educational/teaching points to compliment the plan and help the patient attain realistic goals.
