Nurse Preceptor in Phoenix area?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello everyone! Thank you for being here! I read a lot of helpful posts from many experienced Nurses! I am moving to AZ from IL, presently taking refresher course for RN online (Arizona license), any suggestions where I can find Nurse Preceptor in Phoenix area? I need 120 clinical hours. According to my refresher course Clinical assignments should be completed in 8 weeks. Clinical rotations are unpaid rotations designed to meet the goals and objectives of the course. Your employer may function as your preceptor; however, you are not functioning in a paid position. Hospital orientations, which are not clinical in nature, are not considered part of the clinical hours. Skills labs and hospital in-services, which are clinical in nature, can be used as clinical hours but may not exceed sixteen hours total. I called several hospitals and I was told that they have contract with local colleges for the Nursing students and RN preceptors are not available...I would be very glad if I can find here some tips or help/suggestion? Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Natalia

Hospitals typically precept their own "refresher" students. IN other words, you will have to get a job at a hospital and go through their program. You cannot even do a "job shadow" with an RN nowadays due to HIPPA concerns - much less precept where you are actually taking care of patients.

thank you for your reply. My situation is so complicated so I see that the only way I could precept in the hospital is actually find the job and sign a contract.

Natalia, just wondering what you ended up doing with regards to finding a preceptor in the Phoenix area? Your situation sounds very similar to mine...I too am having trouble finding a preceptor!

Christi I don't know that the above response is quite accurate.. at this time anyway,,maybe was correct in 08.. I just finished last week as an RN preceptee of a refresher program in AZ myself. I shadowed my RN for 160 hrs and was hired by the facility,,,I don't know of any hospitals that have refresher programs either,,the state requires a refresher program be Az BON approved and there are very strict requirements for approved programs. There are no hospitals offering programs listed currently on the boards site..I would suggest you go to the AZBon website and read up on approved refresher programs.. I also suggest contacting ------- at Seven Healthcare in Tempe,, she can help you navigate refreshing in AZ..good luck~
