Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Goal Statement

I have been reflecting on why I have chose the path to become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner over other specialties and it's very clear that my passion has brought me here. I have been fascinated by the intricate pathophysiology of obstetric care for a very long time and I want to be a vital part in the primary care of women's unique needs. Attending nursing school has given me high aspirations to continue my education, which will allow me to not only have personal growth, but professional growth as well.

After graduating high school, I was accepted in an Associate Degree Nursing program at the local community college. Throughout this nursing program, my clinical hours were spent in various healthcare settings such as: rehabilitation centers, mental health facilities and different local hospitals. Last spring was by far the greatest semester, where I had the great opportunity of doing my clinical hours on a labor and delivery unit and a postpartum unit. These clinical hours were very beneficial and I consider them the spark that lit the fire inside of me. This clinical rotation very much confirmed my passion and gave me the motivation to pursue my dreams of being a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner.

This past summer I had an even greater opportunity when I was a nurse extern on a labor and delivery unit at ____________ in _________. I spent seven weeks providing direct patient care under the supervision of a nurse preceptor. These seven weeks provided me with much more hands-on experience, where I was able to play an active role in the process from antepartum to postpartum. The close collaboration that I experienced with physicians was remarkable. I was always thankful for their eagerness to teach me new things about the obstetric world. The externship opened up a door of opportunity for me as I now have a position as a Labor and Delivery nurse when I graduate December 5, 2012.

I want to become and advanced practice nurse to make a difference in the lives of women. I want to be primarily involved in assessing, diagnosing, treating and ultimately creating a professional relationship with my patients. I will strive to take a holistic approach in providing care to women of all ages by treating each patient with compassion, dignity and respect. Being an advanced practice nurse will give me the autonomy of practicing independently or in close collaboration with a physician, depending on my scope of practice where I will be working. I am eager to provide preventative care, which I believe is an extremely crucial aspect of healthcare. I want to encourage and empower women to take control of their own health.

With this said, I am thrilled and delighted to be applying to ______ School of Nursing. I have high expectations for this program and I am positive I will receive the essential education that will be crucial for my success as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. My passion is the core of why I want to become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and this path is where my heart is.

Thank You for your consideration,

Very Wordy......Is there a word count minimum?

Rework the 1st paragraph. maybe take your ending sentence and make it work up here -My passion is the core of why I want to become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and this path is where my heart is.

Take out anything that doesnt related to you drive to be a WHNP so all that stuff about your other clinicals . The second and third paragraphs need to be combined to flow better. You talk about two experiences one being great and one being greater, but I dont think it matters since both gave you the experience and confidence and all that.

The 4th paragraph, I like how you said you would like to create a more holistic approach and focus on preventative care, what does that mean to you and your practice. I would take out everything else.

your closing paragraph...are you thrilled or are you delighted? Ive heard exceptional things about the program, and believe that it will.............lalala.
