Hi,

My family is planning to move to the Abingdon area. Any local info (inside scoop) on recommended healthcare facilities to work at in the SW Virginia/Tenn area?

Thank YOU!

Hello,

I too have just started working in the Abingdon area, I am a VA native that moved away 6 yr ago and have returned to care for my father who has been diagnosised with Cancer as well as my best friends husband who had been diagnosised with stage 4 breast cancer. I am currently working at Johnston Memorial and it seems like a nice place to work, and the people have been helpful to getting me settled in. I have been there for a month or. I have no idea if you have found employment but you may want to look there. No one in this pppart of the country seems to get a hurry in the hiring process, takes themm forever to get through all the steps. Guess the shortage here isn't as bad as elsewhere.

Good luck,

Although this information may be a little too late.... I'll share anyway.

I'm a native of Abingdon. I never worked at JMH, only completed clinicals there so I can't really speak of working conditions. I worked for Wellmont Bristol Regional for two years. Overall a good experience, basically I only left to pursue graduate studies. From Abingdon it was about a 30min commute.

Marion is fairly close, with Smyth Co hospital and Southwest VA mental hospital both located there. Either should be about a 30-45min commute depending on which end of town you live in.

There are also several home health agencies and LTC facilities.

Hope that helps some! :)
