Hello community, I am new to the site. I have a question. Can anyone provide information on schools in the south for nurse midwives and what is the degree level requirement?

Specializes in L&D, Mother/Baby.

Hey ASU,

Can't help you out with the schools as I am in PA, but I do want to move south when I finish up with nursing school (so if you get a line on a good program, let me know ;)). I can tell you that to become a Certified Nurse Midwife requires advanced education. Most programs are master's programs (requiring a Bachelors upon entry). I have heard of some programs offering a certificate program for nurses who already have a Master's degree. Currenly I'm in a two-year program and plan to find a school with an RN-to-MSN program. There are a lot of options out there really; this site is a good resource for info, but it's also just a good idea to research specific schools in the cities you're interested in. Good luck!

This will help you find a program - you can click on the states you are interested in. There are also full distance programs that you could do.

You need at least a master's degree. It becomes mandatory in 2010, but many states already require it. There are a lot of different ways to get the degree, though - direct entry master's programs, RN to MSN bridge programs, or you can get a BSN and then apply.
