Published

I have a project where I have to ask a nurse some questions about their career. I was wondering if any nurses on this website would be able to answer the questions below.

The goal of this project is to ask a professional about their career. I will be asking you about 8 specific foundations of learning which are critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, information fluency, creativity and innovation, leadership, professionalism, effective communication, and appreciating diversity.

Introduction:

Job Title:

Name/Type of workplace:

How long have you been working as a nurse:

Are there any projects related to the nursing field that you're working on:

Are there any other degrees or certifications you have gotten in the past in the healthcare field?

Critical thinking:

When you are working in the quick paced hospital environment, you are usually faced with multiple challenges and unexpected situations. How do you use critical thinking to evaluate a patient's medical records and information to help them in these situations?

Interdisciplinary Learning:

How do you collaborate and work with other healthcare disciplines in the hospital to address the needs of patients? Do you have an example of where nurses need to work with other healthcare professionals in order to help the patient?

Information fluency:

The healthcare field is always changing and new information is being introduced and many nurses have to stay up to date about the new findings. How do you stay current on the evolving and changing field of nursing when new practices and procedures are introduced into the field?

Creativity and Innovation:

Nursing often requires innovation and thinking outside the box when encountering problems and situations that are unanticipated. Has there ever been a time where you had to come up with an innovative approach or creative solution to help a patient?

Leadership:

Being a nurse means that you need leadership skills in order to coordinate patient care with your coworkers and colleagues. How do you use your leadership skills whether it is to help train new nurses, work with your coworkers, or create an organized and positive environment?

Professionalism:

In the nursing field, you are always working with patients and coworkers of diverse backgrounds and cultures and sometimes you are put into a situation where communication or understanding can get difficult. Were there any circumstances in which you had to react composed and professional in a tough situation where a patient or a coworker was not cooperating on how to better maximize a patient's care?

Effective Communication:

Communication is crucial in the nursing field between nurses with other healthcare professionals and patients. Is there an example of when you had to rationally, and reasonably communicate about any misunderstandings or difficulties regarding a patient's health whether it was between the patient, their family, or a colleague?

Appreciating Diversity:

In the healthcare environment, you are always encountering people of different cultures, religions, ethnicities, and genders. Has there ever been a time where you understood a patient's culturally diverse background and was able to provide them with comfortable and appreciative health care?
