Nurse from Germany needs help

Published

Hello, I'm new here and need some help. I cannot figure out for the life of mine what I'm supposed to do (next).

All my education (school and nursing school) was in Germany and I also worked in Germany as a nurse for about 1,5 years.

Since 2005 we live in the US now, but husband is AD military, so we're moving every 2-3 years. Right now we're in California (at least for another year).

I'm a little confused with the requirements of the nursing board in CA.

Can somebody tell me step by step what I'm supposed to do? I already have a translation of my nursing credentials, but it's not with ATA (American Translators Association) or from a certified court interpreter like the nursing board prefers. Does that mean I have to do it again?

Also, I was reading that they'll accept CGFNS evaluations, although the board does NOT require applicants to pass the CGFNS examanination. I went to their website, http://www.cgfns.org/, but I'm not really sure which service or program I need. (credential evaluation service or certification program). If I go through CGFNS (and I heard that might take a while), will they do a translation for me too? Do I still have to submit the transcipt and breakdown forms to my nursing school in Germany?

I don't really know where to start, if someone can help me and push me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
