Nurse Burnout

Hello!

Nursing school sure is stressful. Add working clinicaly with the school books and it just gets worse. I'm sure that you are tired and feeling burnt right now. It WILL get better. Nursing is peaks and valleys. I've been doing this for 10 years now. Trust me in this. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't a train. What can you do to feel better? What can you do to regain your desire for the profession? Go to the movies. Go to a party. Get out of your home and do something, anything, non nursing. Spend time with your friends and family. Take a break from working if you can. If not, try to limit your work days. Your love of nursing will resurface. If you need anything, feel free to e mail me. You can do this. Believe it or not, this will make you a stronger nurse.

Rachael is right. A little bit of burnout in nursing school is expected. Adding work to an already full scheduel of clinicals and theory throws you into overload. I'm not saying to not work. My experience as a student nurse made the theory and clinicals go a lot smoother. I am saying that you need to get out. I found it useful to gt together with a group of classmates and go do something totally unrelated to school or work. Movies, dinner, batting cages, whatever helps you relax will help with the burnout.

I agree with Racheal. For more than 10 years, I never regret having chosen this profession. Burning-out a lot of time means "boring" or "Tired of..." or "demotivated". Therefore another trick to prevent burn-out is keeping ourself always open to new knowledge, refreshing our mind in any situation of work. It also means enjoying each moment of care that we are giving out or each moment of learning new things from our coworkers or others.
