Nurse Aide Positions Geared Toward Psyche?

Published

So I'm taking my nurse prereqs this Fall quarter and I'm thinking of taking the nursing aid course. I plan on going into psyche nursing. Are there any nursing aid jobs out there that partake in the psyche field. If so, where should I look? What sort of medical establishment?

Forgive my ignorance. Just want as much experience as I can get in the psyche field.

Do you have an acute care Psych unit in your area? If so, I'd contact them about what qualifications they look for in their aids.

Specializes in CNA.

I worked in on the TCU, Dementia, and Bariatric floors of a LTC/Rehab facility. I got more psych experience there than I ever will in my upcoming Psych rotation. The bariatric floor was basically a psych ward as they also put the recovering addicts there along with the severe mental issues suffered by people who weigh over 500 pounds. I got lots of experience working with victims of schizophrenia, personality/bipolar issues, depression, addiction, Traumatic Brain Injury, CVA (stroke), delirium and dementia.

My nursing home tended to get some of the destitute who had untreated psych issues. They criminally understaffed. I am really glad I worked there and just as glad I don't anymore.
