Nueces County Jail (Corpus Christi)

Published

Does anyone know who provides health care at the Nueces County Jail in Corpus Christi, Texas?

I'm not positive, but it may be Nueces County itself that employs nursing. There was talk about a year ago of UTMB taking over the medical. Obviously it didn't happen. As far as the provider, I'm not sure. I would call Sheriff Larry Olivarez and surely he could give you some answers.

Thanks. I've called the jail, but nobody answers phone when I call there. I wish UTMB would take over, because I would like to work for them. I am interested in returning to Corpus, but I really enjoy working in corrections, so I would like to continue in that role. Of course, if the county really does still have their own staff, that would be okay also. My point is, I really don't want to work for a private entity.

What area of the state are you working in now, or are you still in Texas? You may want to keep a lookout anyway in this area. UTMB has taken over a large amount of the private entities, however they are giving a few back to the cities and counties that obviously were not feasible. Good Luck.

I'm at the federal prison in Bastrop (east of Austin). Where are you working? In the CC area - if so, what facility? I've heard there is a move to build a federal detention facility near CC, but it will be privately run.
