NTP in Scottsdale, AZ

Hello all, I apologize if these questions have been addressed previously, but I am quite desperate to find the answer, and I haven't had any luck with my previous research this past month.

I'm scheduled to go to Scottsdale, AZ for NTP this upcoming May 2 after completing my Nursing BSN degree and AFROTC.

  1. My little sister's college graduation is in the Middle of May. This is a huge part of her life that I want to be a part of. Is it possible for me to go fly to California to attend her graduation if it were to fall on my "off days," then to fly back? Would I have to request leave to do this?
  2. I also wanted time to apartment hunt during my "off days" for a weekend towards the end of NTP where I will be stationed at San Antonio, TX. Would this be possible with or without requesting leave?
  3. When should I be expecting a salary?

Thank you very much in advance, any answers are very much appreciated.

I completed NTP in Scottsdale which was amazing! To answer your questions, it would depend on your instructors. Technically you are not supposed to leave the state without being on leave and you are in a training environment so taking extra days off is not an option. You are going to follow your preceptor's schedule so you'll have at least 2 days off in a row. There were times that I had 3 days off in a row. You won't have time to look for housing in TX while in AZ. You will however get house hunting days when you report in so you'll have plenty of time to find a place. Expect your pay to be jacked up for a few months so hopefully you have some money set aside, it is like this for all new accessions except those who were in NECP. You'll complete some of your finance paperwork at Luke AFB.

I too will be heading to Scottsdale for my NTP training May 2! Are you going to COT first Mar 28-Apr 29?

Dreaming1007 - where did you live while at training in Scottsdale? And did you need a car to get to training? I'm coming from COT and only have a few days between graduation and the start of NTP training, so driving there is going to be tricky I think. My recruiter hasn't been able to tell me too much about if we will be staying on base or whatever, but I saw the base is a little ways from Scottsdale?

That's awesome! I won't be joining COT with you since I've taken the AFROTC route to do nursing. I still have yet to pass the NCLEX this upcoming Monday March 14 :).

Good luck on the NCLEX! Let me know how you do!

You'll stay at a hotel. You'll have a roommate but they are little apartments so separate rooms with your own bathroom, full kitchen and living room. I drove from COT to AZ with no problems. It took like 2 days. I would recommend bringing your car but when I was in NTP everyone had a car so we would car pool so if you don't have your car you'll be okay. You'll only go to Luke AFB for administrative stuff, maybe like 3 times, and the instructors will take their cars and any additional cars depending on how many members there are. You should received an info packet via email from the instructors prior to COT. You're going at a great time, the weather is great and there's lots to do!
