NP but PA is shorter.......

I'm a lpn and I'm taking classes to get into a ADN program. I came across a website that broke down the time it takes to become a NP and a PA. It would take me less time to become a PA than a NP. Would you become a PA because of this or would you stick it out and become a NP? Utimately, I want to be able to treat, diagnois, prescribe for my patients. I also want to be more general with my speciality because I want to work in either ER or ICU. Also, the PA program is a 2 hour commute each way(but I can catch a train). The NP program is in my town. What would you do???
