Not liking anatomy class

Published

Ever since I was little ive wanted to be a nurse. Im in my last year of high school and am taking anatomy class. I find it to be so boring, I dont know if its the material or the teacher. Just because I dont like anatomy does that mean I wont do well in college with nursing and being a nurse?

I don't know how you find the human body boring! Maybe your teacher or the class is just too easy because it's a high school class. I took anatomy last year in college and it was one of the hardest and most interesting classes I have ever taken. Learning should never be boring. Challenge yourself!

You are young and when I was your age I didn't know what I wanted to do so I got a degree in Music and now I am going back to school to become a nurse. I suggest trying out many different classes, clubs, hobbies, etc. Another thing is to make lists of all careers you are interested in, find out about education required, salary, job descriptions etc. You can do anything you put your mind to.

Finally to make anatomy more interesting and easier to memorize buy an anatomy coloring book, search online, think of it as learning another language etc.

Good Luck;)

You might want to look around for a class this summer that offers ANP for healthcare students. The instructors will give you clinical applications which really makes it interesting. In the meantime, check out Itunes for some ANP lectures from colleges...it might spark more interest and you can ask questions of your teacher in hopes of making the class more interesting. Just as sirinkiz stated, there are some great coloring books for ANP. Also see if your testbook has a website. Many textbook websites have animation of the process going on in the body, etc.

You can still go to nursing school and be a great nurse. I think it's great that you have a definite goal in mind at your age. It took me quite a while to figure out my path in life. Good for you! Too bad you're not enjoying anatomy... maybe it is just the teacher/teaching style? I however really loved anatomy... I actually sometimes wonder if my instructor would let me come back to test just for fun to see how well I'd do after 2 years! Strange, I know :)

oh thank you so much for saying I can still do nursing. I figure if I want it bad enough then ill be ok. For the past couple of days Ive been thinking about different careers and nothing excites me. I just dont want to do 3 years of college and almost be finished and then find out I dont like it and have to go back and retake my classes.

Anatomy and Physiology are important subjects when you want to be a good nurse. However, that doesn't mean that you have to enjoy studying them. Then again, according to my psychology instructor a good student loves studying no matter what the subject is. It's all about attitude. If you really, really want to be a nurse, just think about reasons why this class is important and how it contributes to your future as a nurse. Anatomy/Physiology is probably the most closely-related to nursing when it comes to nursing pre-requisites. If it is a HS class that you're enrolled in now, I do think you'll find college level A/P much more fascinating. Don't let this one little thing take away your dream!

Good luck!

Like others have said, it could def. be the teacher. I took my college Anat class about a year ago and didn't like it at all...but I got through it and came out fine.

Don't worry. When you are able to combine clinical or other "hands on" techniques with the information, it will become much more interesting!

I am also a high school senior taking anatomy but I find it extremely fascintating. It is an advanced placement course so basically college level and I find it very hard. We do a lot of memorization and labs but I really enjoy it. It could just be your teacher. I hope you start to enjoy it soon or in college! good luck! :)

You know...I was feel the same way. I took A&PII and just hated it. Got a C. Thought about giving up on numerous occassions. Decided that I can't see myself doing anything else in the world beside be a nurse. I'm now retaking A&PII (and will get an A this time ). I realized that it was the teacher that made the class uninspiring. My new instructor has a "whole-nuther" style of teaching and now I just get it. I now know how to study and what to study for. So, don't feel like its you, it can potentially be the instructor or maybe you have a "different" style of learning, as do I. If your heart is in it, stick with it.

BTW..I LOVE A&P NOW!!!

Hope all goes well.
