Hi everyone!
I am currently in my third semester of the accelerated BSN program at Shenandoah University. For my upcoming last semester, I will be doing my preceptorship. I need to request some hospitals for the specialty I'm interested in. I really love NICU, Labor & Delivery, and Postpartum nursing. Would any of you know which hospitals in the Northern Virginia area are good for those units? I'm currently doing my OB rotation at INOVA Fair Oaks, which I think is great and put down as 1 of my choices. I've also heard INOVA Fairfax is wonderful too. What about the others, such as INOVA Loudoun or Reston Hospital Center? How is the working environment at those hospitals with regards to students, as well as their OB/NICU units? Any other really great hospitals where a NICU/OB preceptorship would be great to do at?
Thanks so much!!

Hey I am a med surg nurse and have been for 2years in NY and I have tried working in the NICU and needless to say I thought I loved it and still do but I couldn't handle the manual calculations daily and knowing I will have to calculate in a fast speed and if wrong I could take his/her life in seconds. Needless to say I transferred back to med surg. But still wasn't happy as I was in maternity health I did truly enjoy the interaction with the mothers and families so i am now relocating to VA Charlottesville to start a position in Labor and Delivery and Im so excited. I start sept 30 so I will let you kno how it goes. I just wish it was more money but I have notice the decrease in the cost of living versus NY so I pray it all works out.
Good luck in school!
