Who has taken NLN? How did u study for it???

I've taken it...the best way to study for it is to get copies of old tests (go to http://www.nln.org for order info). Also, get a copy of the "Review Guide for the RN Pre-Admission Exam" published by Jones and Bartlett (can order from amazon). Basically, the exam includes your standard verbal section -- vocabulary and reading comprehension; math includes a lot of percentages and more word problems than I like to see :) but is certainly doable if you remember what you learned in high school -- the big problem a lot of people had in this section was time limitations...you have to be able to perform calculations quickly or you'll run out of time on the exam. Science section covers basic chemistry; biology (know the parts/functions of the cell!); physics; and, unexplainedly, a lot of questions about electricity (ohms, resistors, etc.). Anyway, the test really isn't that bad at all, especially if you get the practice exams...Good luck!

HI!!!

I took the NLN in January and honestly I don't know if there really is a way to prepare for it. I sent for the old exams and the only thing that really helped me with those is to know the format and time restrictions. Lots of people I know didn't finish certain sections because they ran out of time.

I never ran out of time, thank goodness. I think that basically the NLN exam is just a IQ test. They want to see your basic knowledge of math, science and vocabulary. I never took biology (got the Department Chair to sign me off) and I went straight to A&P. When I took the exam, I only had one semester of A&P and no micro yet and my score was a 130.

In our school, a 100 is passing, 115-123 gets one point, 124-129 gets two points, 130-133 gets three points and 134 and above gets four points. Is your school similiar? I have only met a couple people who haven't at least passed so most do well.

I would just brush up over the basics and say a prayer!

good luck!

Do you think that these NLN review tests could be bought on ebay or used.

I don't think that ebay would have them, but it's worth a try. They are a little pricey at $10 each for a small stack of papers.

I would ask around at school. I let a few people just borrow mine until they were done and then I got them back to loan out to the next one who wants them.

I think you can purchase a preparation book at your college bookstore or mall bookstore. I didn't have one but I saw other students with them. I didn't study ... I just went right in and took the test. I've already taken all my A&P's, Micro and math and have worked for 5+ years in the medical field. I figured if I didn't know the stuff by now then I'd never know it! By the way ... Yes, I passed. Our school requires a 50% or higher in the composite score. I got a 70% composite. I don't know how that compared to the other nursing "hopefuls" but I was chosen to meet with the nursing selection committe and should find out this week if I got accepted!

I TOOK THE EXAM IN MAY AND TODAY I RECIEVED MY RESULTS I DID NOT STUDY AND RECIEVED A 71%AND THIS WAS MY THIRD DAY OF THE LPN TRANSITION COURSE 50 MORE WEEKS TO GO

We had to have 58 composite for LPN and 68 to get into RN.

It is the exact same test for both! I didn't know what to study the first time I took it for lpn.-There is sample booklet for this exam (ask your DON)-you can order a guide from the back.

I borrowed one the night before to review and got an 85-in the 98th percentile-it's not that tough. Be able to pick out main ideas and inferences from paragraphs (reading comprehension)-quite a bit of math-percents, fractions, balancing equations. We also must score post-high school reading and post-high school math. (It sounds as though these tests vary from school to school. )

I hope this will help! be sure you can divide those percents!!
