NLN Accredidation and Job Placement

My initial plan was to apply to IVY Tech for their ASN program. I received a B in my Psychology course and it was suggested to me to retake the course. If I do that, I will not be able to apply to the program for another year, Fall of 2010. I do have an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. Yes, I can apply to second BS programs, but their pre-req requirements all differ. For example, one of Purdue's requirements is that a person have one year of General Chemistry versus Marian college's one semester of Introductory Chemistry. Also, I am in the middle of changing careers, so the quickest route is best. I have looked into the ITT Technical RN program. This program is new, so there are a few concerns I have developed. They are not NLN accredited, so I am concerned about securing employment after graduation. They have been initially accredited by the Indiana State Board of Nursing. After speaking with the Board of Nursing, I understand that the school must wait for their first graduating class's pass rate on NCLEX in order to secure full accreditation status. I also understand that some of the credits may not transfer to BSN programs. I researched that information only to discover that the general education courses may not transfer to another program. Having an uncumbersome RN license is the requirement for an RN to BSN. Since I already have an undergraduate degree and have taken my science courses, I don't see that being a problem. Indiana Wesleyan University has an RN to BSN program where the student attends class one night a week. So, after securing employment as an RN, the program sounds like a good deal and IWU is CCNE accredited, so after receiving my BSN, I should no longer have any issues with the accreditation of my nursing degree.

I have a friend who went through the RN program at IBC and secured a job with Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis, so I know there are facilities willing to hire graduates of these programs, but just not sure which ones. Any input would be beneficial.

I haven't researched it myself, but I was told by someone starting the program that Med Tech will soon be accredited.

Just out of curiosity, what are your grades for the other 3 prereqs for Ivy Tech? A B will not automatically exclude you because it is a points based system. If you have A's in Anatomy 1 and 2, and English, and score very well on the TEAS, you would still have a really good shot at the RN program. Say you have 3 A's, 1 B, and score 95 on the TEAS, your overall score would be better than someone that got 4 A's and an 84. The application deadline for Fall has already passed, but you can still apply for Spring 10.

If all else fails, you can apply to both the RN and LPN programs, and if you get into the LPN you can apply to the transition to RN program after taking your LPN boards. Wow, that was a mouthfull!

I am going to Harrison college (formerly indiana business college) starting sept 28th. They are not NLN accredited but will be by the time my class graduates.. I also got a b at ivy tech and was tired of the secrecy of the program and all the changing requirements. Just an idea for you to look into, I didnt see this school listed on your post!

I did meet with a representative at Harrison College who told me they were in the process of applying for their NLN accreditation. When I got back home, I went to the website to see and they were listed as a school who has applied or in the process of applying. The school’s name did not show up. Anyways, that is why I posted on here in hopes that perhaps a nursing recruiter or human resource person would chime in. Good luck to you!!!

Let me know how it works out for you because I'm also starting to take prequisite courses at IVY Tech, and I'd like to make sure that I'm taking courses that would be accepted at other schools- just in case I don't get into IVY Tech.
