NICU nurse interested in placing picc lines..where do I start??

Published

I am a 6 year nicu nurse and I am very interested in becoming certified to place picc lines but I have no clue where to start!! I live in northeast Louisiana and there are not many resources about courses, etc. PLEASE HELP??

There is a company called picc excellence, Inc. They put on 2 day ped/neonatal picc insertion and training programs. My hospital sent me to the seminar in Atlanta. Hope this helps. Irene

Did you check with your facility? Ours doesn't allow nurses to put PICC's in neonates, only our fellows, NNP's or IR can. Our go thru a training course with the company and then do them in the unit.

if you can get your manager/director on board Bard or Arrow (any company really) will come to the facility and train you. But you will have to do alot of cost comparison legwork/submissions, make sure they are on your GPO, etc. Training is the easy part

That is your hospital does not have an RN driven PICC team. If they already do...just ask them what you need to do.
