NHSC JOBS

Published

Hi Everyone,

Would love to hear from anyone that has experience with obtaining a NHSC job for loan reimbursement. I am a PMHNP student who will be graduating in about a year (thank you Lord!!), and I really would like to work in a NHSC approved position full-time to help with Student Loans. I see that there are plenty of jobs in my specialty on the NHSC job website. If you are hire at a place with a high score, do you automatically get the tuition help? To do this, I would probably me moving far and if it's not guaranteed if you take the job, then I would just go to the place with the highest salary or to a preferred location. Hope my ramblings make sense....and advice appreciated:)

No you don't automatically receive funding. Even though a prospective employer may try and entice you with " oh and you'll be able to get student loan payback" this is not true. Not everyone who applies will get the award. Most sites are in very rural or inner city areas. I've worked both rural and inner city as a NHSC recipient, my first experience was far from ideal, my second site is wonderful .

What factors go into whether or not you will receive the reward? High HPSA score? What are your chances of getting accepted?

Thanks;)

The higher scores seem to get funding first, some advice be sure you really want to work in a under served area, that you really want to care for patients who are disadvantaged. I'm saying this because if your heart isn't in it and you are only there for the payback you probably won't be happy. Not trying to be mean but I'm being honest.

I did locums PMHNP in Plymouth NH and a friend of mine received loan reimbursement there previously. PM me if you want more info about this facility. (A lot of good clinical staff)
