Hello everyone,
I have just recently decided to make a career switch into nursing and have just started my pre-req's. I have read a lot of posts so far with people upset that they cannot get any loans or assistance... this concerns me because I would need to heavily rely on financial aid to get through school. It was my understanding that ANYONE could get an unsubsidized stafford loan for school... am I wrong?
Thanks in advance!
I guess I should add that I am married... if that makes a difference.

I assumed everyone got the stafford unsub/sud loans too. At least that's what i'm hoping for! I called financial aid and told them I am married with 2 kids and she said combined with the sub/unsub I should get $10,000 each academic year, which just about covers tuition.

Grants make up the biggest portion of my financial aid and then subsidized loans cover whats left. I believe for the loans its dependent on what the financial aid office says you are allowed per term and then they put together a package for you. Did you do the fafsa and all that, Im in Ca and thats how it worked for me.

You can only get the loans for up to so many hours. Also, the amount depends on how many hours you have. Find someone you can talk to at the Fin aid dept at your school -- they will have the best information for your situation!

If you have defaulted on previous government loans, had a drug conviction, or extensively wrecked credit (think $10K or more of collections, the answer is no.
Thanks Maryshome8 but I don't have any of those problems...yikes!
Thanks everyone else too!
