New York University (NYU) vs Mount Sinai Phillips School of Nursing ABSN Program - Spring 2024

Published

Hi all - I've seen similar posts on this but none in the last 3-5 years (most are during COVID which doesn't seem as relevant now). I'm currently trying to decide which path to follow related to my ABSN in Spring 2024, and am curious about the sentiment related to both NYU and Mt. Sinai. I know NYU is much more expensive, but I've seen that this can be offset via scholarships and financial aid initially, but often starting during the second semester. I've also seen some controversial posts related to Mt. Sinai as a school and their ability to retain professors, but this was also a few years ago.

Has anyone completed either of these programs? Are they both extremely difficult, or does one stand out as being more challenging?

Was anyone deciding between either of these programs, and which did you end up picking?

Following graduation, did attendees of either school migrate to work at the hospital related to either school? What is the sentiment of these hospitals?

Thank you so much in advance for your help - feeling very lost as since I'm coming from a totally different field, I don't know many nurses!

If you can afford NYU I would go there. The NYU campus is in a better environment than Mount Sinai (East Harlem). I will be attending Mount Sinai instead of NYU due to cheaper tuition. A majority of Mount Sinai ABSN graduates work for Mount Sinai after graduation. When it comes to the education itself one needs to rollup their sleeves and learn the material. Professors are only a small part of the equation for success. That is my personal belief.

Where did you end up going and what was your experience like. Deciding between the two as well.

I ended up going to Mt Sinai! I would have had to retake chemistry at NYU since I didn't take it in person. I don't think you can go wrong with either, I love Mt. Sinai

Did you take pato and pharm before starting the program? And how was your first semester. I will not have the time to take on portage and to be honest I do better in a classroom setting as oppose to online. Thank you again for responding.

I really love the fact that Mount Sinai stays on top of things. I was accepted at NYU and they never sent me my financial aid package. I think I'm gonna go with Sinai as well. I also noticed that they are verhelpful at Mount Sinai. The financial aid lady did a zoom call with me where she went over their package with me. And she answered any questions I had. I been calling NYU for the longest and no one got back to me. In my book that's a big turn off.

I did not! The first semester was definitely packed but people say taking it in person prepares you well for the other classes and also the following semesters are definitely easier in comparison.

Thank you again for your input. I am however going to start looking into YouTube videos about Pharm and Pato. Do you have any tips you recommend?

Like books and other materials that may be helpful? Did they also offer you scholarships. Are you aware of the NY state scholarship program?

I did not get any scholarships! I also didn't review patho or pharm beforehand since I was taking my prerequisites. They give you plenty of context when you start, although it is fast paced. Once you enroll there's an orientation online and in person and they can give you more information on both courses as well as other materials!
