New RN in the SC area

Nurses General Nursing

Published

My husband and I moved here from Florida a few months ago and I'm thinking about going to work. We are in the Columbia South Carolina area. I have mailed my resume out to various hospitals and to BCBSSC which seems to need RNs but I have not received a response...I'm not sure why. I noticed quite a few open nurse positions at all hospital sites and BCBSSC but they do not seem to respond.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!:balloons:

There is a South Carolina section in the disussions. You may find some help there.

I am in Charleston, so I'm not much help. Have you tried Palmetto Health? http://www.palmettohealth.com

Good Luck!

Unfortunately, the hiring process with BCBSSC is very long. Sometimes it can take up to 3 months for them to process your application. Everything has to go through Human Resources, and they are notorious for being painfully SLOW. If you do not meet the minimum requirements outlined in the job description, they will discard your application and notify you by mail. Nurses who work for BCBSSC must have a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience. If that is not reflected in your application, then you will not even get the initial interview. I hate to say this, but with BCBSSC, it's all about who you know "on the inside" that will get you the job faster. I know this from experience. Otherwise, it can literally take months before you hear from them. One suggestion is that you contact the recruiters directly at HR. They may be able to expedite the process. As far as applying at the hospitals, again, your best bet would be to contact the Nurse recruiters directly and work with them. Ususally the key contact person is posted on the hospital's website (under Careers, and Contact Info). Hope this helps!

I always call to check in on my application. I call and call and call until I get an answer that either yes my application is being processed or no they aren't interested. Sometimes I ask about speaking directly to the nurse manager on the unit and letting him/her know that I'm interested in the position and things move along much more quickly. You have to be somewhat aggressive because even though they "need" nurses the recruiters are doing who knows what with your application.
