All Nurses has been my go-to resource from pre-nursing, through school, and so now I am throwing this out there in hopes of getting some good feedback. I'm a new RN working in pediatric home care just shy of 3 months. Before I ever pursued nursing, I was interested in midwifery and trained as a doula, taught medical students on reproductive health topics, etc. Now I am applying to L & D, which is very competitive in my area, and really wanting to nail it on the cover letter/resume. I have done a lot of research online, but thought I should get some real, live nurses' opinions on how this might look to hiring managers. Thanks so much in advance!!

Dear Hiring Manager:
I have a strong and sincere interest in a nursing position with XXX Hospital's Childbirth Center, as I am very passionate about supporting the well-being of women and families. I have undertaken various studies in midwifery and reproductive health, including:
In addition to my work in women's health, I had the privilege to work as a nursing assistant with a great team in Group Health Cooperative's Home Health & Hospice Division. Working in hospice was a profound opportunity to care for individuals transitioning towards death, and I found that it truly complemented my knowledge of supporting families as they bring in new life.
I recently completed my Bachelor's of Nursing in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In addition to learning the standard content of a nursing program, I was immersed in a culture distinct from my own. This was a cornerstone of my education, as it prepared me to be flexible and adaptable to the people I am serving and to be continuously engaged in expanding my cultural competency. Additionally, while in Puerto Rico I learned to speak Spanish in a clinical setting.
I am currently employed part-time as an RN with New Care Concepts, an agency that provides medically intensive home care to pediatric clients. I am actively seeking a position in maternity nursing and believe XXX would be an excellent fit. I have heard great things about your organization's dedication to quality maternity care and am looking forward to learning more about how we can work together to serve families. Thank you very much for your consideration!
Sincerely,
Kelly XXXXXX, RN, BSN
