New Registration for Non-EEU Nurses

Published

Lotus RN 1972 here!!!!

I am a US nurse (and nurse manager) wanting to work in the UK. New regulations, tests, and procedures have my little mind spinning.

I know that the theory test is through Pearson Vue,yet am not sure of what study guide to study from: Saunders, ATI, Kaplan....Huh? What?

In the US, to become a nurse, one must take the NCLEX test to work in the state of residence to work. The new UK registration testing is almost as nerve-racking as the NCLEX. Anyone have any words of advice???

Thanks in advance :woot:

Hi there,

Don't really have any advice to lend as far as the new exam goes, but there is a "study guide" for the exam here: Trained outside Europe | Nursing and Midwifery Council

I'm in the same boat as you but am already done with the application process, which isn't bad as long as you turn in all of your documents exactly as requested by the NMC. The next step for me is to register for the new exam, but I'm a little wary of registering for an exam that looks like it was designed to make you fail! The study guide is 132/3 pages of links to random rules/regulations/other things to know for the exam, and in order to pass the exam you must pass all of the critical questions (not sure how many there are on it); if you miss even one of these 'critical questions', regardless of whether or not you meet the passing rate (60%) of the 120 question exam, you fail :( The exam costs £130, so it is not cheap. It's all kind of crazy...

Specializes in NICU.

Goodness me...I had no idea about any of this until I read an e-mail I got this morning from a travel agency. I got my registration in 2012 and things keep changing!

Best of luck to you guys! And be sure to post how the testing experience went, would be helpful for others reading it here and I'm super curious!

Thanks, babyRN! I'll be sure to do that. Hopefully the exam isn't as bad as it seems!
