I have a friend of mine that works at the abbotsford hospital here who connected me with someone who was working with her that took an online LPN course. This girl told me she took it through Thompson university in Kamloops back in 06 which was contracted through Norquest.
It was an excellent course and the program was well know throughout B.C. I heard through other people at the hospital that they turned out excellent students. Sadly for some reason they never renewed there contract through Norquest and it ran out in 06.
She told me you went up to kamloops once for a month and another time for a couple weeks for the practicums but did her last one here locally. She got a job right away at the big hospital here AND she is now doing an online RN course out in edmonton while she is working.
I of course was interested as I need to work and am unable to do fulltime and this is perfect.
I contacted Kamloops and they told me they are no longer offering the LPN direct and were telling me to go to Williams lake to go to there school which is abusurd since I live in abbotsford. So i contacted Norquest and finally found out through my contact there, that the program may reopen again. I said to him that there would be no shortage of students as I already have a couple people that are looking for a B.C. direct learning LPN program for a while.
I wont know for sure till the beginning of february as the talks wont go through till January but it seems pretty positive at this time. I just thought to throw it out there to those who might be interested.
