New to nursing.: need advice moving from LTC to hospital, what skills to brush up

Published

I've been nursing for 1 year at a long term care home as an RPN and just got a job at a hospital doing acute care, long term care is so repetitive and the scope of practice is so narrow i hardly used any of my skills i learned in school. all i do in long term care is med admin, catheters, simple wound care and sub cutaneous injections. i am scared to death to do IV therapy, IM injections, and numerous other things. i don't want to mess up i feel like because i haven't done anything in the field that i've forgotten all of my skills i learned in school. any advice from other rpn's about what it would be good to brush up on before starting this new job, and maybe how to not be so nervous? thanks!
