New nurses!!!! Student needs your help!!! PLEASE!!!!

These are not black and white questions and I would answer them differently at different times and frames of mind. First of all keep in mind that nursing is not this narrow and there will be a broad spectrum of challenges, lessons to be learned and advice to give. There are no easy parts of my job because just when I think I am having an easy night things tend to fly loose. The most important thing I've learned was not in nursing school but through experience. Always trust your instinct, if a patient "looks bad" but all vital signs are good then look closer, something is happening. Prioritize, and dont put anything off for later. Always look at all your patients and introduce yourself at the beginning of the shift this way you see they are pink and breathing! As the same token always do a round at the end of your shift 30 minutes before report and check IV sites, see if they need pain meds, this helps the oncoming nurse lots! Check previous posts about advice for new grads. I dont really remember why I wanted to become a nurse but the reason I like my job now has nothing to do with my frame of mind 10 years ago.
